The Sanctuary Introduces Carbon Offsets

The Sanctuary, a locally-owned and operated licensed cannabis retailer and delivery service, has become the first dispensary to utilize carbon offsetting via donation to California-based Carbon Offsets To Alleviate Poverty (COTAP).

In committing to this innovative environmental and community benefit, The Sanctuary hopes to lead by example and encourages other businesses in the cannabis supply chain to calculate their annual mileage and facilities' carbon footprints and support the fight against climate change.

Heidi Minx, The Sanctuary's Chief Marketing Officer, notes, “It’s no secret that the packaging regulations, transportation requirements associated with testing and distribution, as well as indoor growing practices leave the cannabis industry in a less-than-desirable position with regard to carbon footprints and sustainability. Because California is a global leader in both cannabis cultivation and innovation, we believe we should lead by example."

"COTAP’s particular approach to carbon offsetting appealed to us greatly -- not only are they California-based, their work goes beyond just offsetting. They choose projects that support farmers and help ensure food security. Carbon Offsets To Alleviate Poverty (COTAP) is a California-based 501(c)3 nonprofit that funds projects around the world. Their mission is to empower individuals and organizations in developed countries to address both climate change and global poverty. COTAP counteracts carbon emissions through certified forestry projects in developing regions, creating transparent, accountable, and life-changing earnings for rural farming communities where income levels are less than $2 per day.
