Ding... Your Sessions are Done.
The 2018 mid-term elections created several long term impacts on the cannabis industry - - but none perhaps as powerful as the defeat of Congressman Pete Sessions by Democrat Colin Allred, and the forced resignation of Attorney General Jeff Sessions demanded by the President this morning.
As Chairman of the House Rules Committee, Pete Sessions had blocked dozens of important cannabis bills from members of both parties from ever being heard, and had become Congress' single most relentless perpetuator of cannabis prohibition. Patients in his home state of Texas suffered greatly from his tactics that kept them from receiving life-changing medicines.
The former AG Sessions, another Southern prohibitionist prone to over-sharing his almost caricature-level bitterness about cannabis and then hiding behind the old saw "Hey, they're not my laws, I'm only enforcing them..." killed the Cole Memo, putting a stick in the eye of states' rights, and demanded funds for law enforcement to roust state-law abiding business people.
Good day, gentlemen, don't let the door hit you on the way out.
