California's Bureau of Cannabis Control Brandishes the Stick

Meanwhile, over at Ganjapreneur - our other favorite cannabis pub - TG Branfalt reports on the NPR-affiliate KCET story on California’s Bureau of Cannabis Control.

The BCC has issued more than 1,000 cease-and-desist letters to unlicensed cannabis operators since the recreational use law took effect on Jan. 1, according to a KCET report. It’s the first step in shutting down illegal operators.

This issue has been riling us up for months - every time we see an article like this "Hundreds of California cannabis cultivators in backlog limbo"... There are dozens of such stories, lamenting the teensy percentage of cultivators who are now licensed (such as "Here's Why Most California Cannabis Cultivators Don't Have Licenses"), the shitshow in Calaveras County...

It's enough to make an industry advocate's head hurt. (Pass the CBD, please...)

What Branfalt gets right is that California cannabis businesses can get their licenses FREE right now.

"The BCC is including information on how to obtain licenses along with the cease-and-desist letters, and is issuing temporary licenses, free of charge, which are good for 120 days and can be extended by the agency for additional 90 days."
